Sure. It takes some time until the shares are deposited on the account (2-3 weeks is not unusual).

No. This is not done to raise cash, but to lock in profits. If i have excercised warrants yesterday, and i want to lock in the profit, i.e. because the price rises even further, i would short the shares tomorrow, or next week, if i'm afraid the price could go down, until i receive the shares.
