Levinson bought before the dump had begun before year end. If I am correct and this is position shifting due to previous enormous tax loss selling, then in a financial surroundings where financing for mines is extremely difficult, the last thing a management should do, is to p.ss off your big shareholders and mining investors, by grabbing some cheap shares, they want to grab themselfes. To me this ...more

Schill: please explain your last remarks. (Levinson bought before the dump had begun before year end). Where is your proof?? (If I'm correct). Sounds like an opinion on your part, right!! That's ok, because I've got a lot of opinions on GCU as well. That said, did GCU management piss off Pinetree Capital/Sheldon Inwentash?? That said, I was pissed off when Mr Levinson got a 1M share ...more

And today comes the first factual argument for my thesis, that it was taxloss selling by Inwentash: Jan 2/15 Dec 31/14 Inwentash, Sheldon Control or Direction Common Shares 10 - Disposition in the public market -1,300,000 $0.105 Jan 2/15 Dec 30/14 Inwentash, Sheldon Control or Direction  ...more

Sheldon was forced to sell......GCU was among many of the holdings that got hit........and a few of them have recovered quite nice............
Comment by Schill on Jan 15, 2015 4:01pm
The reason why a don't believe that, was the hurry. If he would have been forced, he would have seen that earlier and started earlier. Gold and miners in the last two weeks were doing not so bad. Another reason could have been redemptions (also due to taxloss). Can you name a few of those shares that have recovered? I want to check when the recovery set in.

Since Jan 1sr (incl. today 1M) I count roughly 22.8M GCU traded. And from the first filing to Dec. 31st I have roughly 23.38M. So if it was taxloss related and this is rebuying (as I believe), we should be done by today or tomorrow and volume should normalize and maybe the ask should rise again and not be nailed down. But also if Inwentash is out and someone bought his shares at 10 ct. and has ...more

I thought that when someone sells and there is a lose you are not able to repurchase that stock for 30 days.  If you do you do not qaulify for the lose.

Excellent hint, thank you. Idid some search for tax loss selling under Canadian law and found this article: https://www.theglobeandmail.com/globe-investor/investor-education/tax-loss-selling-if-youre-dumping-your-dogs-read-this-first/article21834856/ You are correct. Also my thesis that the selling until Dec.31st was tax loss related is proven wrong in that article. The settlement date is what ...more

Could still be Pinetree  (Sheldon) only under a different corporation.
Comment by Iskyhigh on Jan 15, 2015 3:59pm
that info has been available since Jan 2nd.
Comment by Schill on Jan 15, 2015 4:08pm
Even better. The quick filing indicates he maybe wanted to use the effect of the public filing to make sure nobody is disturbing his buying back. If someone has done him the flavor to take his shares at 10 ct. and this one was not keen on holding, then he would probably have waited with the filing, until the dump was finished, isntead to create downward pressure on the price.

Call it tax loss selling if you like, but I still believe it was pure selling to cover his debt covenents.

Great observation!! I thought of that too!! Time will tell whether he did or not.
