Looking at the map - does anyone think that an open pit will be allowed where the lake is? And if the lake can't be open pitted, how would that change the size of a pit on land? What if only high grade underground was mined - how would he resource change?

According to their plans only portions of the lake would be affected, the rest would be sealed off with cofferdams. And to find answers to your questions, the usual studies are have to be made.
