Despite this week's worldwide market turbulence over heightenedfears for the U.S. economy, Harper said the Canadian financial systemremains "in very good shape."
"All our information would indicate obviously while certain bankshave had some significant writedowns, that overall, the balance sheetsof the Canadian financial sector remains very healthy," Harper toldreporters after announcing a new proposal to help families of Canadianswith disabilities.
"The best information I have, and I do continue to get briefed onthese matters, is that the troubles in the financial sector of theUnited States should not spill over into Canada," Harper said.
