I did the testing - you can't sign up a user name already in existence unless you have direct access to the user profile database. They (he/her) just did it to me as well, much like they did it to you recently.
It is them doing it - I am pursuing it myself, you can always contact them as well. Could also consider putting in formal privacy complaints, but those take awhile.
If it continues, could launch a privacy breach lawsuit and use a court order to get the information of the individual that signed up our account (e.g. IP address, etc). Hopefully Stockhouse will deal with it promptly - I would rather they get a shot at correcting it.

my imposter is using aiphaj but with a capital i. Technically its a different account but still a sign of multiple accounts. And I know 100% its bac0n
