The world is about to get a whole lot greener. Makes you wonder what all the traditional energy companies are going to do? It's moving faster than I think they know.
Storage will be the key to the migration to solar. Once people can eliminate the grid all together from their lives, traditional power is dead. People can migrate over to independent power generation and tell the utilities to stuff it where the sun don't shine.
As I was alluding to earlier today, North America is resists this move to their own peril. The longer we resist and continue to lack the social and political will to fully commit to going solar, the more of an energy dinosaur we become.
In the end, it will be individual(s) who move to off the grid power production and storage, that finally puts fossil fuel powered public utilities out of business.
JMHO
The next thing that would happen in NA would be that sun shine will get taxed, or at least individual solar power generation.
Oh I think they will be taxing solar equipment quite heavily. Anything to keep the likes of the Koch brothers happy.

The tipping point for clean energy and particulary solar is economics. Fighting a battle against clean energy can always be won by the Koch's. Fighting a battle against economics can never be won. When solar is clearly cheaper than nat gas and other forms of energy - it's a tidal wave that can't be stopped. They have talked about solar having cost parity with natural gas in a couple of years. That will really be aided when the cost of solar silicon (40% of the cost of a solar panel) is greatly reduced in price. HPQ can do that and still make billions. According to that article, Clinton wants to increase solar production by 7 times. Big stuff happening.
