Let's differentiate between Shorting and Naked Shorting.A retail guy CANNOT control Naked Shorting because the shares that the Short is selling are not even owned by that entity. So this HAS TO BE BANNED IN YOUR COUNTRY LIKE IT IS IN MANY 'CIVILIZED' COUNTRIES.
With regular shorting the entiry has to borrow the shares to in order to short them.
For this the only rememdy is to put a sale order for ALL your shares at a very hight price - for example here $50 for Max. time which is about 3 months, and repeate it afterwards.
This kind of counter shorting can work quite well if all investors do the same and reduce the short position to the minimum.
In your next elections - please talk to your MP members and i think you have some state members to press your candidates to stop Naked Shorting.
I do not think regular sale of short positions will be banned. I hate it but that goes back to your friend Kennedy senior. Bunch of crooks.
I would be sending complaints to TSX about HPQ's short selling and most likely naked short selling. Start doing it on Monday.
Just my opinion and take it for whatever it is worth - perhaps not much but doing my part here as I want HPQ to succeed and us to make $$$.
