USB 2.0

USB 2.0 One more thing. USB 2.0 should be released in Q1 of this year. Designing to 2.0 is difficult since , as other posts have mentioned, it is not defined. Most IC manufacturers (Big names) are waiting on the final spec. The good thing about USB 2.0 is that any USB 2.0 hub MUST support USB 1.1 compliant devices (in the current draft USB 2.0 spec and not likely to be removed). So even if you design to USB 1.1 your device will not be obsoleted by USB 2.0 (at least electronically) and 12MB is still pretty good! I do not believe Bri is shorting or bashing this stock, he raises valid technical issues. Will extreme USB end up in a Laptop - unlikely. Will in become part of the Home PNA standard (unlikely) however do not underestimate the value of an industrial application. My only concern is that I was unaware that ICM has been talking about all of these other technologies (Bluetooth, WLAN, LAN etc). Unless they have about 100 software, hardware and Firmware engineers ready to go...this sounds like a receipe for disaster. Do one thing first and do it well then move on. regards ed
