Chlor-alkali sector and hydrogen as a byproduct Today's JEV news mentioned that the CEO of their European partner Exognen will be a keynote speaker Euro Chlor's Hydrogen Day tomorrow.
Just did some research about that chlor market as it states that up to 20% of the hydrogen produced at chlor-alkaliplants is currently vented and that one of the 3 three uptake solutions considered is hydrogen boilers. It is pretty huge market, and according to a recent SkyQuest research report, the chlor-alkali Market is expected to surpass a value of US$81.23 billion by 2028.
Euro Chlor's website states "Hydrogen is an important chemical for the climate neutral economy. Europe is defining screening criteria for hydrogen but does not yet consider chlor-alkali electrolysis. The chlor-alkali sector produces some 0.27 million tonnes of hydrogen as a by-product of the highest purity. Chlor-alkali electrolysis also has a low carbon footprint...The climate neutrality of the electricity used is key here to determine the renewable nature of the produced hydrogen."
