Lignol provides update on Cellulosic Ethanol project with Novozymes

VANCOUVER, March 17 /CNW/ - Lignol Energy Corporation (TSX-V: LEC)("Lignol" or "the Company"), a leading technology company in theadvanced biofuels and renewable chemicals sector, today announced thatits wholly owned subsidiary, Lignol Innovations Ltd., has recentlycompleted a major body of work with Novozymes in producing cellulosicethanol at Lignol's pilot-scale biorefinery.

Lignol and Novozymes had previously announced a joint research anddevelopment agreement to make biofuel from wood chips and forestrywaste with the aim of producing biofuel (cellulosic ethanol) atproduction costs competitive with gasoline and corn ethanol.  The firstphase of the project, which included producing cellulosic ethanol fromhardwood at Lignol's pilot-scale biorefinery, has been successfullycompleted.  These joint efforts have resulted in the achievement ofinterim targets, establishing baseline production costs for the nextphase of the project which will focus on enzyme and substrateoptimization with the objective of achieving the overall cost reductiontargets.

"The achievement of this operational milestone with Novozymes is animportant accomplishment and puts us one step closer to meeting ouroperating cost targets for a commercial biorefinery," said RossMacLachlan, President and CEO of Lignol. "Over the coming months wewill continue to work closely with Novozymes with the objective offurther reducing the cost of producing cellulosic ethanol fromhardwoods and laying the foundation for large scale commercialdeployment," he added.
