my thought is the MRE was requested (demanded as it seems) during the due diligence process. 

so they needed cash to prove they have it in them for another series of drilling.

maybe this is a tactic to say, "ya, we can keep drilling. No problem, we have lots of cash. But.... if you are going to wait another 2-3 yrs for us to give you an MRE, then the price will keep going up!" 

Maybe the buyer thinks...."gold is on the rise, the pie keeps getting bigger and more expensive, so we better buy now at 7b or we'll have to pay 9b in 3 yrs!!" 

SOLD! ?!

I don't know......
