Matamec-Toyota deal Matamec needs to find a new financial partner
September 23, 2014 - 11:48 | Oboisse@rncmedia.ca
Matamec will have to find a new financial partner for its rare earth project on the Kipawa deposit. Toyota Rare Earth, the Canadian subsidiary of Toyota, and Matamec have signed a termination agreement.
Matamec becomes 100% owner of the Kipawa deposit and has to pay Toyotsu $ 280,000. The latter held 49% of the project. Toyotsu trades its assets in exchange for a 10% royalty on the net profit of the Kipawa deposit when it is in operation.
Martine Gaudreault, Vice-President, Public Affairs, Citizen Optimum:
"On what was based Toyota's decision to withdraw, I can not tell you, I'm not TRECAN, I can not speak on their behalf. But they had very good reasons to invest, they had good reasons, they still have good reasons to stay in the project, to transform their interests. Also Toyota is still indirectly in.
