Desjardins top picks ( Mitec )Congrats all Don't know if this was posted yet Desjardins' top picks Desjardins Securities unveiled its top picks list for 2004 yesterday. The list includes 24 Canadian stocks. Angiotech Pharmaceuticals Inc. (ANP-TSX) is the top pick in the biotechnology group. Analyst Laurence Terrisse-Rulleau has a price target of $85 on its stock, which closed yesterday at $61. (All targets are for 12 months.) Forzani Group Ltd. (FGL-TSX) was No. 1 in the consumer discretionary section. The specialty retailer's shares are forecast to climb to $20 from a close of $17.17 yesterday. Metro Inc. (MRU.A-TSX) was the top choice among the consumer staples with a $25 target. Royal Bank of Canada (RY-TSX) and Toronto-Dominion Bank (TD-TSX) topped the list for banks, while Manulife Financial Corp. (MFC-TSX) and Sun Life Financial Inc. (SLF-TSX) were the picks among the life insurers. The price targets are $75 for RBC, $51 for TD, $46 for Manulife and $36 for Sun Life. Brascan Corp. (BNN.A-TSX) was the top choice in the asset management category. Its shares are expected to rise to $48. Placer Dome Inc. (PDG-TSX) and Glamis Gold Ltd. (GLG-TSX) were selected as top picks in the golds. The price target on Placer is $22 (U.S.) and on Glamis $21. Falconbridge Ltd. (FL-TSX) got the nod in the base metals group with a price target of $38 (Canadian.) CGI Group Inc. (GIB.A-TSX) was top pick in the high-tech/industrial group. Its shares, which closed yesterday at $8.30, are expected to rise to $10. Analyst Barbara Betanski's top pick in the oil and gas sector is Talisman Energy Inc. (TLM-TSX), whose shares are forecast to rise to $92 from their current $74.90. Domtar Inc. (DTC-TSX) was cited as top pick in the paper and forest products group, while First Capital Realty Inc. (FCR-TSX), IPC U.S. Income Commercial REIT (IUR.UN-TSX) and Killam Properties Inc. (KMP-TSX) got the nod in the real estate sector. Other stocks on Desjardins Securities' top picks list were Mediagrif Interactive Technologies Inc. (MDF-TSX), Stratos Global Corp. (SGB-TSX), Mitec Telecom Inc. (MTM-TSX), Nortel Networks Corp.
