I personally think that this is a rational path to follow, if the drilling continues to return overwhelming positive results in proving up a top notch resource.
If American Barrick had accepted being taken over by a major after they discovered Goldstrike, they would never have been able to become the (nearly) $52 billion company they are today, as Barrick.
Keep in mind, a shareholder at the time of the discovery, could also now have 8 times as many shares due to subsequent stock splits (3 occasions, all 2 new for 1 old), so the equivalent current share price for that shareholder would be cdn$232.96 for their original share holdings, not the actual current $29.12 price tag.
I like the way you think BlindBoy. I too think that the NFG boys want to build an empire and I hope that is the way they go. Why sell out for 3 or 4 billion when you can put this thing in production and hopefully find tens of millions of high grade ounces and have NFG end up with a 30 to 40 billion market cap in 5 years time. Don't laugh because it can happen. The Keats Zone can be put into production quickly. You can practically scrape off three or four million (maybe more) high grade ounces right at surface in no time. As easy as it gets.
The drill results to date have been phenomenal and the amount of prospective ground along those faults is enormous. From what I'm seeing with the quality of those gravel roads and buildings set up it's my guess these boys plan on setting up shop for a very long time. I ran into someone that said NFG had even bought houses in Gander and buildings to store equipment and core samples. These guys are serious about this operation. They sure seem like they want to build an empire to me. Just sayin!!!
