Globe says Great Bear garnered intense buyer interest

The Globe and Mail reports in its Friday, Dec. 17, edition that five major mining companies engaged in an intense bidding war for Great Bear Resources, with Kinross Gold eventually emerging the winner last week. The Globe's Niall McGee writes that three unnamed sources said Barrick Gold and Agnico Eagle Mines, as well as Australia's Evolution Mining and Newcrest Mining, were offered the opportunity to bid on Great Bear. The parties were given access to Great Bear's confidential data, conducted site visits at Red Lake in Northwestern Ontario and almost all tabled formal offers. Kinross, Barrick, Agnico and Evolution declined to comment. Great Bear chief executive officer Chris Taylor says he cannot say anything on the internal details of the Kinross deal, "other than to confirm it was multi-party." The intense competition for the early-stage Great Bear, which has no proven gold reserves at its Dixie project, illustrates how rare big gold finds are becoming worldwide, and the lengths the largest mining companies are going to secure them. Kinross announced on Dec. 8 it had reached a friendly agreement with Great Bear to acquire the firm for $1.8-billion in cash and stock, a 26.5-per-cent premium to its market price.

absolutely I believe  nfgc is on the radar from all of the majors that expressesed interest in gbr...there  are all kinds of ways this could play.. one of the most direct ways in my mind to obtain a stake in the property  might if Sprott were approached by one or more of the majors....he has made it known that he will sell if/when the true value of nfgc is recognised....if this were ...more

When we start getting the test results I think it will double from here very quickly even without a major .That being said I think everyone in mining is starting to look at what is going on in Newfoundland with NFG being the flagship property

NFG has been listed just over a year and yes the have a good find so naturally we just obsess about selling it. Please don't develop a eye disease common to proctologists. Yes Sprott would sell anything at the right price ....who wouldn't. Realize this he has good grasp of what Newfoundland has in this area find and not  many out there do. A lot of education remains for the market ...more

Hey ike I think we are the only two who have been here almost from the beginning and wholeheartedly believe what NFG has is much better than Fosterville. There is a lot of drilling left to do and there will be more high grade zones discovered at depth and along strike. This is a huge high grade gold system. Not many in the world like it. Very rare to have something like this with very ...more

Thanks for your lovely response Mega. I think we will both be preaching a while longer before everyone really gets it. In the end we will be saying Fosterville Smosterville.....there is no comparison. Have you ever noticed on our new website home page that it is actually Mount Everest with a flag hoisted on top? It will be a while yet before we are at summit breathing the stratified air but ...more

Drilling will prove that not only is Queensway rich but there is a lot of ounces as you go deeper. And who knows how many more zones will be found along strike on the 100 plus km of Appleton Fault on NFG's ground. The potential is absolutely huge. Keep drilling and if we become too expensive to be taken out then put it in production ourselves. I think the market will ...more
