Active Petroleum System

An APS does not mean they have found commercial oil zones.....it means they have found shows or indication of the presence of hydrcarbons.

Since they logged the well while drilling and presumbably logged open hole before setting the liner, they should know if there is commercial oil in the first target zone and....they didn't go there.....leaves a lot of guessing and speculation.

My interpretation of the PR is that they are drilling in an oil prone area........and nothing else.

It's not what they said....it's what they didn't say.

How can you tell if a hydrocarbon system is active or inactive from well logs? Also they used the word "several". Meaning that they have some sort of laminated structure there with several layers of reservoir rock sandwiched between seals? That might suggest oil migration along an inclined fault feeding several reservoirs wouldn't it? So do they somehow know it's active because ...more

Active petroleum system ..means we have found an accumulation ..that is the only thing that was lacking at Kawa to complete the trifecta ..mature source rock producing HC,reservoir and now accumulation ..forget migration pathway Kawa practically on top of the source rock...

No, Finding a hydrocarbon system does not mean its an accumulative or even commercial.or a seal on anything. Just some shows mayby in logs or cuttings, who knows right? Good indications with great potential for the Primary target. and second Hor 23 and 25. The upper Camp and Santonion mentioned, really are just bonuses to the big prize I hope.

Well they spent about 11 weeks to drill about 2600 meters from the last NR. If they had no operational problems then what were they doing for all of that time?Certainly not drilling a vertical well. Probably tripping, coring, running wireline, maybe even DST, evaluating, directional drilling. My guess is that they probably cored the Campanian and MDT'd w/ sidewall cores the rest of the " ...more

Lol Clouder, In oil field speak low angle is anything close to vertical down. As you come up to horizontal the angle increases. Happy dreams! Lmao

I'm surprised to see so many experts putting this much weight on active petroleum system. I thought it was well known fluff terminology in oilfield. For example, recon exploring a virgin field in Namibia said they found an active system with their stratiographic wells. No one is saying they found pay: https://finance.yahoo.com/news/reconafricas-first-three-wells-confirms-040100822.html

Great point! Did they take nearly 80 days to drill 2600 meters?
Comment by Ermosp on Dec 17, 2021 2:05pm
I don't discount that and your assessment of it at all. It does sound quite possible. What I'm noting is that the wording in the NR does not give much clarity and has been used to describe dusters as well as producing wells before. We can make all sorts of inferences about timeline - positive and negative (e.g., maybe they faced a drilling situation they didn't have gear for and ...more

Yeah Ermosp ..based on my experience I do concur..virgin fields usually have fluff but you can check out SheDrills that bustle in her hedge row might give you a spring clean ..lol ..LWD has its limitations plus we are now entering the Primary target zone at this point I can handle fluff going in ..Clouder are you feeling fluffy ol'chap ? A 50% uptick based on fluff ain't bad homme ...more
