In fact, PanTerra has sunk about $12.5 million into the shale gas play in Saskatchewan in the past three years and drilled about 36 test wells in locations ranging from Foam Lake, Shell Lake and Moose Jaw.

And on Thursday, PanTerra announced it completed a $5-million share offering. "We're probably going to earmark 75 to 80 per cent of that for the shale gas,'' said Fred Rumak, president of PanTerra. "We'll probably use the rest for the deeper potential'' in the Bakken formation, he added.

Rumak said PanTerra would like to find a partner to share the costs of developing the shale gas resources, as well as develop some deeper Bakken oil production
