CAN YOU DO BETTER THAN THAT?Rugwasher, I believe Canada has more than one person in the alleged conservative party - a US news article said there was a "conservative landslide" in the recent election.
My guess is there is a movement in Canada, as there has been in the US ever since President Obama was elected, to reduce the size of government, lower taxes, and thereby increase freedom and liberty. Yeah, that would involve a little bit of "deregulation", but that's how you get government out of the equation, deregulation (think about it, that's how government gets itself overly involved in our affairs: enactment of law after law after law - deregulation is just the opposite of that).
I think people across the world have gotten the Greek message, and that is that if government continues to simply invent new handouts, then eventually the economy will collapse (c.f. 53 year-old retirees, a train system with $100 million in revenues that costs $700 million per year to run (gotta pay those government employees real well), a healthcare system where one has to utilize the "fakelaki" in order to get his doctor to see him (i.e. pay him under the table), etc., etc., etc.). I know some Greeks, and they are at least willing to admit that it's been "bread and circus" over there for quite some time.
Yes, I prefer to believe the more sane people of Canada can read the writing on the wall - and that is the continuation of liberal policies will land Canada in the exact same mess as Greece (and more countries I believe to come). Heaven help Canada if the US slides into the same predicament.
By the way, how did you like the 40-minute funeral service the US government (a la Obama) threw for Osama when our own Supreme Court won't allow kids to pray at school? Hmmm .... makes you think.
And, how do you like Obama riding this sudden wave of popularity when he utilized interrogation techniques at Club Gitmo to extract the information that was used to find Osama? Didn't Obama and the rest of his band of long-haired, FM-radio-listening, knee-jerk, yellow-dog, flea-infested liberals just spend the last 6 years complaining about these procedures put into place by President Bush?
