RE:RE:RE:RE:RE:RE:High salaries?
RE:RE:RE:RE:RE:RE:High salaries?I sorta agree on the salaries not being the problem. But I think if they are relying on visual product search primarily you should ask yourself and everyone you know one important question.
Do people really use it? and second, what is the state of retail businesses?
To me the answer to those questions is
1 - No, at least not yet, and I do not see mass adoption by consumers. Do businesses try new things out? Sure, mainly because they are fearful of missing out on something that may be big. Today 4 people I know are going out shopping. Mother daughter (51 and 26), and another mother daughter 55 and 32. None has ever used visual search, only 1 has ever heard of it. When I asked why they are going out shopping it was because of some big sales they heard about (Macys is one of them). I ask everyone when I get to talking about retail and no one has ever used it.
2- Retail, especially big box retail is having a tough time. There is not a lot of money to keep throwing at things.
What does work? Coupon push to mobile phones. About 20-30% respond to offers hitting their phone when in the vicinity of a store. Even so , even the awareness of such offers is low but growing.
In my opinion Slyce should have worked on building snip snap (millions of coupon clippers out there) and worked on coupon pushing. Getting paid by vendors to put that coupon in someones hand right when they are near their store.
But we all have opinions of course..
