Please read Page 7 of short and precise Users Manual! Install these burners, turn on overhead fan, turn burners on high. The burners will smoke and smell badly of burning plastic for about 3 - 4 minutes, This is a curing process. After this curing they are ready for rock & roll! These burners are such an excellent product! Why stove manufacturers aren't lining up to purchase Pioneering Technology's burners for their electric stoves, beyond me. The temperature and heating of pots and pans is wonderful, quick and steady. Also enhance the type of pots and pans I use. Easy to clean, wipe and go with dish water. I use "Dawn Apple" and two cap full of bleach in dishwater. I began with Page 7 instructions because I can be an idiot at time and managed not to read Page 7, calling the company for help out of alarm with smoking and odor. They responded the following day explaining the curing process. Extremely pleasant and helpful! I cannot say enough wonderful things about this product; Never having been a fan of traditional electric coils, these burners make the stove top look modern and fancy. Excellent product and company!
