The purpose of this series is to introduce Members to the basic concepts and techniques of various activities, which perhaps could become hobbies.
The Club invites prominent speakers from the world of business, the law, parliamentarians, the media, the military, and others distinguished in their fields to give members and guests a first hand account of events in their fields in a private venue, and operating under Chatham House Rules where speakers may chose to speak more frankly than in an open forum. The series take the form of lunch presentations, or late afternoon receptions followed by the speaker and usually a question and answer session.
The evening receptions are also the opportunity for members and guests to stay for dinner afterwards.
The Special Events Committee introduces a youth series with speakers of interest to inspire the youth of the club and their families.
In offering members and guests the opportunity to have detailed information on specific topics, the club has instituted an Education Series where speakers are invited to discuss specific topics in their field. Speakers are drawn from the arts, academia, scientists, and others of special interest. These are usually lunch time presentations that appeal to segments of the club membership and guests.
Family events bring life to the Rideau Club as Members and their family enjoy delicious traditional buffets or fun children’s events.
