"i am pretty sure all board members of companies receive salaries for their duties"

Not sure why you assume this Aves. This is totally not true. I think some people here don't understand the concept of board of directors. Not all board of directors are employees of the company therefore they do not get a salary. In fact for the company I work for, most of the board of directors are not employees and have very little to do with the companies daily operations. They are considered outside directors which are not engaged with the organization, rather they are there to bring their outside experience and perspective to the board and help resolve disputes between inside directors if necessary.

This is what I believe Dr. Chowaniec is, and will contribute I'm sure but I think some have a misunderstanding of what his overall contributions are to the company. If OPEL actually hired him as part of their executive team with his direct involvement in the company, then I would be more excited. The fact that he joined does show he has at least interest or some confidence in POET. These type of board members are generally rewarded with options.
