1. Amalgamated Tobacco Manufacturing (Pty.) Ltd. (ATM Africa) is a licensed manufacturing
warehouse for the manufacture of cigarettes. The manufacturing license was approved by the
South African Revenue Services (SARS) in November 2012. The manufacturing warehouse
number is DBN VM 01244, and the manufacturing license number is A10551.med with the SARS.
3. We have recently become aware via Face Book, We Chat, and other forms of communication of
an ad that has been circulated claiming that certain brands of cigarettes are illegal and
counterfeit. This ad is also proclaiming that both the SARS and the South African Police Service
(SAPS) by way of use of their logos confirm that the listed brands are illegal. The ad is attached
herewith for your perusal.
4. Note, the following brands that appears on the said ad are owned and manufactured by ATM
Africa:
Carvela
M’s 20
D’s 20
Malimbo
CK
5. The above brands are lawfully manufactured cigarettes.
6. The ad has been fabricated, is false propaganda and is illegal in relation to ATM Africa. It is
further an attempt by the guilty parties to create mischief, uncertainty and give rise to the doubt
the authenticity of ATM Africa’s brands.
7. We have engaged with both the SARS and the SAPS on the matter. The use of their logos has
most definitely not been used with their consent and is illegal. The matter is been dealt with by
the respective persons.
8. We further attach a counter chart for your reference purposes detailing the signs and markings
of lawfully manufactured cigarettes.
