RE:Is it possible ...

RE:Is it possible ...Extremely unlikely that the maintenance was caused from a kick. The kick would need to be very violent to damage the rig - like causing the pipe to hydraulic out of the hole (the reservoir pressure pushes the drill pipe out of the hole). A kick that violent would mean huge issues for the well integrity and environmental state of the lease (a very big spill). And the other risk would be a kick occurring with pipe out of the hole, that would require snubbing to get under control, and we would have likely heard about that because additional equipment would be needed to be mobilized and likely would not have been done over a week. If a kick was in the well, they would likely deal with it prior to shutting down for maintenance. Sitting with pipe out of the hole and an influx in the wellbore is a recipe for disaster.
