Operating Margins with Self Checkout

Canadians are slowly becoming comfortable with Self Checkout.
Zara is currently rolling out self checkout with security features.  This will lower their operating costs (labour and shrinkage).  Sooner or later Reitmans will take the plunge.  This will make their store network even more profitable than e-commerce as Reitmans currently has free shipping and returns.  Zara does not offer free return shipping.

Zara is also selling used clothing.  Preowned test markets are Spain, Germany and France.

Zara had an amazing Q1 with sales up 13% and net income up a staggering 54%.
Sales are up 16% from May 1st to June 4th!
