Salt domes

When searching in Google: "Stockpiling oil in artificially-created caverns deep within the rock-hard salt costs historically about $3.50 per barrel in capital costs. Storing oil in above ground tanks, by comparison, can cost $15 to $18 per barrel - or at least five times the expense." The US strategic oil reserve is around 700M barrels stored in salt domes. When calculating the potential volume at Fitchells Brook... I'm under the impression it could store many multiples of that quantity? If it cost 3.50$ per barrel x 700M barrels = 2.4B To store undergrou d and if its 5 To 6 time cheaper to store underground, I'm thinking that our upper limit value could be the delta between above ground storage and the capex for underground storage? Do the math! Anyways, just being creative here! :) MoneyK

There's also a great chance an oil pool sits below as well......as Rowland suggested with his comment "where there's salt, there's oil" . But.....I think the current talking point is storing hydrogen. Whomever takes possession of these potential chain of domes can put in what they want? Best

There is a health and safety issue with above ground storage that is not so much an issue with underground storage or ammonia......

Crunchy, how many twh of electricity could be used for hydrogen with the projects on the table and current infrastrutures in place? MoneyK

Well Muskrat falls is 824 MW development and is about to come on line fully soon. NS has rights for 20%.. So there is almost 660 MW available from there. There is some recall power NL sells through quebec that could be diverted (i am unsure but think like 80MW is to be sent to the Island). There are numorous smaller Hydro developments that could be done. The gull island hydro project is ready to ...more

From Google: "Germany's Net-Zero Future Needs 41TWH Hydrogen Storage Capacity. For Germany to be able to store sufficient amounts of energy to achieve greenhouse gas neutrality, additional hydrogen storage facilities with a capacity of up to 41TWh must be built, a new study finds" Do you know how many TWh could be created with the power available? Its hard to say there is some surplus electrical generation on the island, muskrat falls, future gull island, and the massive, churchill falls in the near future, a huge number of future wind generators. Too many unknowns.  It will be very large thats the best we can say right now. Lets just get it out there right now, the trying to go 100% renewable is complete horseshit. We will be using ...more

Scionxb777 Ok you have outed yourself as a mental midget. Best to not say anymore and have people think you are an idiot then to open tour mouth and remove all doubt. Trump is the cleanest man on earth, the insane democrats have combed through the mans life and found nothing. Many failed attempts to push a false narrative. SMH. Biden is the senile front man of a successful coup by the WEF and ...more

Continual posting of personal views and name calling are ruining this board which has been a good source of debate at times.  I for one have zero interest in anyone's life or political opinions outside of those relating to Atlas Salt. There are other platforms to express those.

I always remember that name calling and childish insults are the last refuge of those with nothing of value to say. My 7 year old daughter knows better than to resort to insults when they can't contribute anything meaningful to a conversation. I try to back up anything I say with the facts and research I have available to me. If someone backs up what they say with the equivalent of 'you& ...more
