TerraCO2---Turning Mining GREENThat is a headline we may soon be seeing. A lot of Portland cement is used in backfil in mines which gives off A LOT of CO2 when it is manufactured. Reading in SMD's MD+A and Terra's two websites, I find, Terra's main focus is developing a replacement for Portland cement...and also exploring applications in the mining industry such as binders for dry stacked tailings. backfil and grouts. Terra is presently focused on optimizing the technology for ready mix concrete. That means they already have something. They go on to say carbon-neutral cement may be economically feasible in the not to distant future, and as we know cement is a big market.
Taking the CO2 out of backfil will go a long way to make mining green. I avoid investing in heavily polluting mining companies and the public avoids them too. Companies using carbon-neutral cement will investment. TerraCO2 will be turning mining green----You saw it here first.
