I recall that it was one of the two Metis groups who just changed leaders. Cal stated that Tam was proceeding to work around that group since Pine Point is not located on their land, and they hadn't had time to consider the details.
The group that agreed to $70,000 a few days ago for "exploration permission" is the first First-Nations group (not a Metis group) that offered written support. Pine Point is on their land.
According to the Canadian history books I grew up with, the Metis are descended from a blend of French-Canadian explorers and the FN people they married. So Metis is not the specific name of a particular tribe with thousands of years of history.
