NEW YORK -- North American spot antimony prices remain in a range of $5,550 and $5,600 a tonne as buyers and traders prepare for the upcoming Chinese New Year holiday, when little business will be done.
The market was in pretty good balance but there was little buying activity, one U.S. trader said. "There's been no excitement before the upcoming blackout period for the Chinese New Year," he said.
Prices were holding steady amid the scant buying, but an uptick is expected going forward, he said. "We still feel that the prices and level of buying activity will change, but it hasn't happened yet."
A second U.S. minor metals trader confirmed the steady price range and the quiet market conditions. "$5,550 to $5,600--that sounds about right. There really hasn't been any runup yet before the Chinese New Year," he said.
Prices remained in the $5,450- to $5,550-a-tonne range ex-Rotterdam warehouse, with the discount to U.S. pricing due to the freight differential, a British trader said. "It's been a long period of static prices. The Chinese are controlling exports and not flooding the market."
With a realistic profit of $3600 per tonne and cost of $2000 for vvc and beaverbrook, how can one not like the potential of vvc. This is a sleeper with no exposure. One day it will explode and not look back. Question is when...
