Earthquakes
EarthquakesFirst Haiti and now Chile have been hit by major earthquakes.
Davidson and Al. developed the Powerwave system after studying the effects of earthquakes on oil production.
"North America's largest recorded earthquake hit Alaska 45 years ago. As expected, the quake briefly but significantly stimulated oil and gas production in the Western Canadian Sedimentary Basin. But Tim Spanos, a physics professor at the University of Alberta, noticed an unusual timing in the increased output. Based on rates of wave propagation, "you should have seen the changes in Alberta 24 to 48 hours after the quake, not three or four days," says Brett Davidson, CEO of Edmonton's Wavefront Technology Solutions Inc. After several years of researching this phenomenon, Davidson and Spanos teamed up with Maurice Dusseault, a geological engineering professor, to create an improved oil recovery process called Powerwave."

I wonder if the recent earthquakes have generated noticeable increases in oil production at Pemex and other South American oil fields. If so, these horrible natural disasters could on the other hand generate more interest for Powerwave.
