Largest Wind ParkThe interesting part of this article is the fact that when this project is done it will be the largest wind park in the US. That is very significant and I would think that a few of the big players in this space are going to want to get in on this project. Anyone have any thoughts on a buyout?? I know when I first bought into this company they had an offer on the table for roughly 8 dollars a share and they didn't take it so I am assuming this should be worth more than that. Very undervalued.
Around US $160 million worth of wind turbine generators with the capacity to produce 120 megawatts (MW) were recently reserved from wind turbine manufacturer Gamesa by Western Wind Energy Corp. It will be used for the US’s largest wind park, the Windstar Project.
The order will be paid by Western Wind, a California-based renewable energy electrical production company, mostly through Manulife Financial.
Gamesa, a company that assembles wind turbines in 32 production centers and 20 countries around the world, was selected among other manufacturers after a 12-month evaluation period because of the firm’s robust and technologically advanced product and their comprehensive after-sale maintenance.
The Gamesa turbines that will be used for the Windstar Project include G80 2-MW which is designed for high winds, G87 2-MW, which is designed for medium winds, and G52 850-KW which can be used for both medium and high winds.
The Windstar Project in Tehachapi California is one of Western Wind Energy’s four projects which cover 1,500 acres of land. Under a power purchase agreement, it will supply Southern California Edison with around 400 million-kilowatt hours of power annually, with predicted revenues of over $35 million per year, for 20 years.
Western Wind has received a $228 million offer for Windstar Project assets in May 2008 but is currently still reviewing other options.
