RE:RE:RE:RE:Its a Steal
I was the caller who suggested various solutions for water infiltration into DST#3.  Spent 32 years working on frontier exploration projects...specializing in well control, water control, zonal isolation and production testing.  There are several viable methods to solve problems...none are cheap and all are time-consuming...but definitely dooable.  From NR and conference call, the micro-annulus they effectively acidized to connect formations is most likely at the cement/formation interface, due to improper mud removal or a poorly designed "Scatcher and Centralizer" program.  This is why they didn't spot micro-annulus during pressure pass of CBL (Cement Bond Log)...because the annulus was against the formation, not the casing.
Simplest solution wouldv'e been to polish off cement column (inside casing after abandonment of DST#2) down to point between DST #2 and #3, with suitable formation cap (ie shale), then perforate and squeeze with a low viscosity slurry (ie SqueezeCrete).  This would seal a large portion of the micro-annulus in both directions...up and down...with very little risk of injuring producing formations above.  Once done, re-acidizing and proper testing could proceed.
WZR could also have gone with any number of "Specialty Treatments" available for water control.  Products such as Marsat and MeriSeal actively seek water channels and avoid petrocarbons (hyrdophyllic and petrophobic properties, all in one formulation).  Due to fairly long lead-times to obtain such products, this was probably not fiscally responsible to keep rig on location, but could certainly be a mitigation item for future wells.
Copy of this, with several other technical questions and quearies, has been forwarded to both TLM and WZR.  Awaiting response.
If anyone ever has any questions, please feel free to ask.
