So in a past news release the company mentioned buying back about 10% of the stock, which would equal about 21 million shares.  After buying back 500 000 shares the company stopped the buy back and has no plans to buy back anymore at this time.   However, over the last few months the management has bought quite a few shares for themselves.  Is it possible, and I'm only ...more

I would think that if the company was negotiating a buyout that insiders buying fast quantites of shares would be illegal. That has got to be pretty much the definition of insider trading. I would probably go with your second explanation, that they are just trying to conserve cash. The higher oil prices will probably not be reflected as they have hedges in place for basically all of the production ...more

Thanks for the post.  I agree re: the buyback initiative although if they truly believe the stock will start a bull run soon, it seems logical that NOW would be a good time to use the cash to decrease the total shares.  I also agree there's little to no real prospects of a merger or acquisition at the moment, but that could change in the next 24 hours.  ...more

Again, this is complete speculation, but if the company had been negotiating a buyout over the last few months, I don't think their purchases of shares would be considered illegal insider trading as they have not hidden the fact that they've been purchasing shares.  It's not as though they've been secretly accumulating shares through some off-shore account through a dummy ...more
