it is a chance for humans that Jean do not manage waterwell drilling....after a year an a half (and not yet finished) to get 2000m done, everybody would die of dehydration. Plus, he has 2 drillrigs

Excellent point, but not rational on this basis. They do not need to take the capitol loss NOW but could wait till years end which would give them time to see what would unfold from drilling.
