CalciTech End-of-Year Product Development Update
Hamilton, Bermuda, 15th December, 2005 - CalciTech Ltd. (Ofex: CLK; OTCBB: CLKTF;
Freiverkehr: XCH) today provides an end-of-year update on the progress of its product
development programme.
Following the appointment of Francois Roux as its Product Development Director in April of this
year, and of Jean-Claude Masson, Marketing Manager for non-paper applications in August,
CalciTech has worked with several industrial partners in various sectors on the development and
marketing of its SCC-related products for non-paper applications. With its unique and patented
technology, CalciTech is able to tailor-make superior products for specific industry applications.
In October of this year, CalciTech announced its first non-paper product, CalciSPTM, which is aimed at
the food, pharma and cosmetics sectors. An independent analysis, carried out by the Geneva Institute
of Technology, has shown that CalciSPTM is extremely low on heavy metals content, well below
values reached by other products on the market, and well below regulatory limits, a major factor in
these industries. Furthermore, CalciSPTM has similar rheological properties that contribute to the
uniqueness of the Company’s products for the paper industry.
The Company can now disclose that the industry’s response to the announcement of its new product
has been extremely positive on a global basis. CalciTech is currently assessing the different
opportunities for the distribution of CalciSPTM in the various markets that have shown interest, once
the Company has built up its production capacity.
Further product development and market research have earmarked various sectors with significant
prospects for the sale of SCC-related products. Several producers of printing inks, a highly technical
product, have trialled SCC in the manufacture and use of their products, and have indicated
commercial interest for the Company’s products.
An extensive testing programme conducted by a technical group specialised in plastics, has shown that
SCC can significantly enhance certain characteristics of the finished product, especially in the strength
area. One important parameter in the plastics industry also concerns rheological properties. It has
been proven in the paper industry that CalciTech’s SCC has unique properties in this respect, and the
Company anticipates similar results in various plastics trials currently underway, which are expected
to be reported on in the coming months.
Francois Roux, CalciTech’s Product Development Director, stated, ”Our strategy to closely co-operate
with potential customers continues to determine market opportunity. Our diversification programme
to date has shown, as we expected, that our SCC is a unique product that can contribute to significant
improvements in the properties of finished products that contain calcium carbonate. We are actively
discussing applications for SCC with several partners in various industry sectors, who have recognised
that SCC is a very versatile and superior product. We are confident that we will be able to launch
further products with a significant competitive edge over currently used calcium carbonates, and we
anticipate making further announcements in the coming months.”
