"Discount rate" is for determining NPV of future benefits/obligations.
"Expected long-term return on plan assets" is the number that they use in their pension funding formula. One is for valuing the future liabilities and the other is for funding them.
It might make sense to look at both numbers, adjust them to what you think is realistic and then work out the EPS impact?
