RE: What Telus should doYeah, I agree with that ... that scum remark was kinda stupid. Both my parents were in unions until they retired. Niether are scum.
Buzz Hargrove...
I've never been in a union (except when I worked at Ikea for a couple months -- Teamsters, I recall), and I think that -- as an institution -- they tend to encourage a culture of entitlement; plus, the people who are most passionate about their membership tend to be the kinda of people who say inflamatory things. Oh yeah, Buzz Hargrove...
I really like the guy. Why? Because he doesn't have a greater political agenda. He's totally dedicated to his membership. Oh that, and he's $%$^% smart. His endorsement of Grits is the last election was good calculus. The NDP last formed a federal government when? Oh, but they could steal enought votes from the GTA to pave the way for a Tory minority. In Buzz's last negotiations with GM, his staff had done their homework so well that the company's negotiating team was scrambling to verify, I am told.
Now, I don't say this to hurt anyone's feelings, but this contrasts immensley with what happened last summer. Five years after the expiration of the last collective agreement, the TWU's leadership led its membership into battle with barely enough money to last three months, little appreciation of the company's commitment level, and the audacity to misrepresent the facts to the very people it claimed to serve. Again, I don't what to piss anyone off, because I know we're all proud. Unions protect workers from greedy employers, but who protects union members from incompetent union leaders?
Oh, earnings this Thursday. I'm guessing a little below guidance.
