EnCanaNP says EnCana, rivals hear coal bed outlook comfy EnCana Corp (TSX:ECA) Shares Issued 852,802,689 Last Close 2/15/2006 $47.35 Thursday February 16 2006 - In the News Also Nexen Inc (TSX:NXY) In the News The National Post reports in its Thursday edition that natural gas output from Alberta's coal bed methane reserves could be more than double earlier predictions. The Post's lPaul Haavardsrud writes that a new forecast, set to be released in the spring, says gas production from coal seams has quickly become a routine part of the industry. The breakneck pace of development, however, has made it tricky to get a fix on how much gas might be recovered from the resource. For gas in place, industry often defaults to 500 trillion cubic feet. That is a figure formed in 2001 by the Canadian Gas Potential Committee to describe the maximum amount of CBM in Alberta. Deciding how much of that gas may one day be recovered is another matter. Few public estimates have been released, with industry leaning on a wide range of forecasts. Phasis Consulting is putting the finishing touches on a study that shows recoverable CBM reserves will outstrip even the most optimistic estimates from a few years ago. Focusing on production from the two primary CBM zones, the study finds that natural gas from coal could produce as much as 176 tcf in the next few decades. © 2006 Canjex Publishing Ltd.
