RE: New Property & Social UnrestI live in Indonesia. I hold not position in SA although am interested in their operations froma social standpoint as they are very responsible. Most Indonesians are very pro-mining, particularly on Sumbawa, where Newmont has provided thousands of local jobs, built roads, a hospital, schools and provides many other social services not even the central government can provide. According to the local Indonesian language media the incident at Elang-Dodo is perpetrated by a local, minor village potentate who owns an artisan mine in the area Elang. His girfriend/partner, whatever, decided to shack up with an Indonesian geologist working for Newmont on the Elang exploration work. This village potentate decided to exact revenge on Newmont as he sees their presence as a threat to his harem.
Furthermore, it is patently untrue that Newmont is pulling out of Indonesia.
