Lauzon, Ph.D., M.D., FRCP(C) Dr. Lauzon offers extensive training and experience in multiple areas of relevance to medicine and the pharmaceutical industry. MSc and PhD degrees in Pharmacology (University of Alberta) provide basic and clinical research expertise, both applied in present career endeavors. A Medical Degree (MD, University of Calgary) complete his formal education. Presently, Dr. Lauzon is Associate Professor and Director, Division of Dermatology, Department of Medicine, University of Alberta (Edmonton). He is involved in numerous clinical research studies addressing psoriasis, atopic dermatitis, vitiligo, herpes simplex infections and warts. His area of clinical expertise is geriatric dermatology, with special interest in long-term care. At the basic research level, Dr. Lauzon in involved in sphingolipid biology as related to skin cancers, primarily squamous cell carcinoma and melanoma. Basic research endeavors are primarily suported by the Canadian Dermatology Foundation. Presently, Dr. Lauzon also acts as Chair, Dermatology Examination Board, Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada. He is Vice-President of the Alberta Society of Dermatologists and participates in numerous committees of the Department of Medicine and Faculty of Medicine (University of Alberta), and the Canadian Dermatology Association. Dr. Lauzon is involved in medical student and resident teaching and training, and in graduate student supervision. -------------------------- Dr. N. Wasel is the SPIRIT study investigator in Edmonton.
