19,000 trees on these lands.Glencairn Gold Corporation is a gold producer with two mines in Central America. Our recently constructed Bellavista Mine in Costa Rica entered full production in Q1/06, more than doubling the Company's gold output to almost 100,000 o.z. and lowering cash operating costs. Our Limon Mine in Nicaragua has been in continuous production since 1941. https://www.glencairngold.com/s/Home.asp
Glencairn's Costa Rican subsidiary owns about 1200 hectares of land in two large parcels, one of them containing the Bellavista mine. The other, to the south, is known as Agua Buena. These lands have been used extensively for agriculture over the past 100 years, meaning the original forest cover has long been depleted. At Agua Buena, Glencairn has committed to the creation of a 300-hectare dry tropical forest, which will be an anomaly in an area surrounded by prosperous farmland and industry. Glencairn has established a nursery nearby, growing directly from seeds of native species. So far, we have planted more than 19,000 trees on these lands. The plan is to plant at least 10,000 more each year until the land is turned parkland forever.
At the Bellavista property, the mine will create a footprint of about 19 hectares, with the total area used by the company to be less than 85 hectares. The company has committed to a similar replanting program at this site after mining operations are finished. When this reforestation is completed, the entire property will be turned into parkland and donated to a community association in the local county.
