RE: Skeptical

RE: SkepticalST: I never meant to imply that the E.coli vaccine is unsafe to consumers nor that this was the concern of regulatory agencies (sorry for any confusion). Rather, the regulatory delays (after the company has said it would be approved years ago) may be that the vaccine is not needed (E.coli in beef kills surprisingly few people per year) and/or that it is not effective enough. (As I understand it, that this vaccine is not meant to prevent Walkerton-type disasters which also are relatively rare.) If the regulatory agencies were convinced that this was a drug that was going to make a huge improvement in public health, they could have approved it by now with post-marketing surveillance of efficacy and hazards to persons injecting the vaccine. BNC themselves have said these delays are unprecedented and beyond the normal "red-tape" that one would expect. So, call me a skeptic but I am not so quick to conclude that "these delays are normal and soon BNC will be rich". My advice is to invest in BNC for MCC. If E.coli approval happens then that is gravy (and I'll admit, a potentially huge amount of gravy!!) but something just smells really fishy about this. And Graeme McRae calling Health Canada and/or the CFIA "idots and fools" is just plain dumb and not helpful at all!!! (Check out the last few conference calls if you want his specific words on the Canadian authorities but they are quite derogatory and not at all likely to help get co-operation.)
