AmmEl Patent Granted Company awarded United Kingdom patent for its ammonia treatment technology
TORONTO, May 31 /CNW/ - ENPAR Technologies Inc. ("ENPAR" or "the
Company") is pleased to announce that it has received a patent for its AmmEL System.
Additional patents for the technology in Canada, the European Unionand the United States are anticipated within the near future.
The current patent is for improvements made to the Company's US and
Canadian patents that were awarded on July 4, 2000 and December, 2005,respectively.
The improvements broaden the applications of the technology, which now include treatment of solutions resulting from dewatering of sludge or bio-solids and containing extremely high levels of ammonia (500-1500 parts per million), as well as tertiary treatment of solutions containing relatively low levels of ammonia (10-50 parts per million).
Dr. Gene Shelp, President and CEO of ENPAR, states that "historically, the company files first in the United Kingdom in order to establish the prior-art-date or date-of-disclosure, then patent applications are filed in the United States, Europe, and Canada, and then in other jurisdictions of interest".
The handling of sludge produced from municipal waste water treatment represents a major challenge for all levels of government as they strive to develop a risk-free management strategy. A key approach is to develop a biosolid product from the sludge, which is free of environmental concerns and can be applied directly to the land. Alternatively, energy can be extracted from the biosolids via various burning technologies.
Regardless of the ultimate fate of the biosolids product, water must be removed from the sludge, and this water contains ammonia at toxic levels.
The AmmEL-HC System is proving to be extremely effective in converting this ammonia directly into environmentally friendly nitrogen gas.
The AmmEL-HC System enables municipalities to achieve year-round compliance with government-mandated environmental standards and regulations.
ENPAR is a "Technology Company" applying its patented and proprietary "Electrochemical Technologies" to the treatment of waste water and drinking water contaminated by metals or nutrients i.e., nitrate/ammonia associated with the mining, metal processing, chemical, agricultural, municipal and waste management sectors.
