RE: luke-what does this mean?Luke
What do you know about the folks at the Mongolian National Mining Association?
Here is a quote from one of their recent newslettere:
AROUND IVANHOE MINES
Perhaps Mr. R. Friedland didn’t see in his even worst nightmares that his company would encounter severe protests in Mongolia. It won’t be an exaggeration to say that the company’s entire activities are objected. These protests and disapproval are expressed by almost daily demonstrations and strikes around the Government House. More oil was poured onto the fire by news about a recent sentence of Burmese citizens who protested Ivanhoe activities in Burma. Some well-known Mongolian scholars have expressed serious reservations about the draft Stability Agreement Mongolian Government was going to establish with Ivanhoe. It is very likely that Ivanhoe Mines would be upset with the content of the Stability Agreement as these very scholars are included in the Parliamentary Working Group to draft changes and amendments to the Minerals Law. It may even turn out that the Stability Agreement would not be established at all. In fear of losing their political ground and to secure more seats in the next Parliamentary elections, the lawmakers in the “besieged” by demonstrants Government House, might vote for not having such an Agreement at all with Mr. Friedland’s company.
Furthermore, the fact that the company acquired a mining license before reporting its final explorations results qualifies the company as a corrupt company which violates Mongolian laws and bribes Government officials. Anyways, Ivanhoe Mines does not look good to Mongolian people.
