Prince Al Walid has promised to support the government's plan to build a new university in Dodoma.
The prince who is visiting the country made the promise yesterday when he held talks with President Jakaya Kikwete at State House in Dar es Salaam.
''I appreciate the importance of education. I also remember the promise you made during your election campaigns of the desire to establish a new university.
As a true friend of Tanzania, I promise to support the construction of the new university,'' he said.
Prince Al Walid, is in the country as part of a tour of 15 African nations where he intends to invest.
Through a company he owns, Kingdom Holdings, the prince has made a 75.6 bn/- ($60 million) investment in tourist hotels in Dar es Salaam, Zanzibar and Arusha.
In Dar, his company has invested in Movenpick Hotel. He said he will spend 56.7bn/- ($45 million) to rehabilitate it.
The prince, identified health, mining and energy sectors as areas he would invest in.
The prince also expressed interest in investing in a fertiliser manufacturing plant, insecticide and livestock medicine production.
The former will be the only factory in east, central and southern Africa.
