Newmont is Out??Sorry wrong date... the an acquaintence in the Department of Forestry stated the permit runs out on July 25 and they have yet to hear or receive an indication from Newmont on getting a 1-year extension.
Word coming out of Denver is the Denver boys at this time find the non-mining issues in the country too hot too handle. Their Indonesia/Australia boys actually want to go ahead, but Denver got cold feet.
Yup... the camp got burned in part because one of their geologists slept with a local girl who happens to belong to a local head honcho's harem. Furthermore, the local buzz in Ropang is that the same head honcho (village head of Lebangkar) would not get a cut out of employing locals from his village because those from two other villages get first dibs according to the feudal pecking order there. Best way to deny rivals an opportunity in Indonesian style, particularly when someone sleeps with his harem.... burn everything down. A bit messy for Newmont and locally everyone is up in arms at them. Talk about huru hara and running amok.
The local regent said that SA is already on the ground and done socialization and the local village potentates are giving them all the support and are glad to see them there. Knowing SA's prez's connections in Toronto and London... it is conceivable he will talk with Brian Levit or one of those guys in Denver and take Elang off Newmont's hands. The prez and his team are those kind of guys, they plan big and do big, and why not? There is always the remote chance it doesn't pan out (no pun intended), but it don't hurt to try. One of SA's team seems to scare the hell out of local Indonesian crooks, which is nice. What more do you need????
