Premier secures key management personnelPremier secures key management personnel Aug 23, 2006 11:30:00 AM Shares Issued: 52,253,514 THUNDER BAY, ON, Aug. 23 /CNW/ - PREMIER GOLD MINES LIMITED (TSX: PG) is very pleased to announce that Mr. Stephen McGibbon and Mr. Matt Long have accepted management positions with the company. Stephen and Matt have extensive experience in gold exploration and mine development, particularly in the Red Lake camp where Premier has strategic land holdings. Stephen McGibbon has accepted the position of Executive Vice-President and Chief Operating Officer of Premier. Stephen is a Professional Geologist with over 23 years of exploration, mine production and management experience. He graduated from Queen's University at Kingston, in 1983 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Geological Sciences. Upon graduation in 1983, and prior to his tenure as Exploration Manager, Stephen held positions of increasing responsibility in Red Lake with Goldcorp Inc. and its predecessor companies Goldquest Exploration Inc. and Dickenson Mines Limited, leading to Chief Geologist in 1995. Since 2001, and until June of 2006, Stephen has served as Exploration Manager for Goldcorp Inc., at its flagship Red Lake Mine operation. His focus in Archean terranes and experience with shear-hosted, lode gold deposits dovetail very well with Premier's current assets. Stephen brings to Premier a very successful track record in gold exploration and development, being a senior member of the team at Goldcorp that discovered the "High Grade Zone" at Red Lake. The High Grade Zone is world renowned as the world's highest grade gold deposit and one of the most important gold discoveries made in the last 20 years. In his capacity as Chief Geologist and Exploration Manager, Stephen lead the talented team of geologists that helped transform the marginal, high-cost operation into an unparalleled mining success. Recently, Stephen was a member of the senior team that integrated the Red Lake Mine and Placer Dome's Campbell Mine, as part of Goldcorp's recent purchase of Placer's Canadian mining and exploration assets. Stephen is a disciplined geologist and team-builder that helped foster a spirit of innovation at Goldcorp. "I am extremely excited to be part of the Premier Management team and becoming an integral part of Canada's newest gold exploration and development company" Stated Stephen McGibbon. Matt Long has accepted the position of Project Manager, Red Lake. Matt is a graduate of the University of Manitoba, B. Sc. Honours Geology, and has worked with Wolfden since 2005. Prior to working with Wolfden, Matt served as Mine Geologist at the The Campbell Gold Mine in Red Lake (Placer Dome), responsible for all production geology of an assigned area of the mine. During his final two years, Matt was responsible for the deepest area of the mine, the 3900 level, that included the DC zone ramp and all associated zones on that level. This experience included daily sampling of underground developments, underground mapping and plotting of data, drill program layouts, ore modeling and daily reports of active headings. Daily communication in both oral and written form has been necessary with the miners, shifters, planners, surveyors, and engineers, in order to produce economical and safe development. Responsibilities also included 3-D wireframe modeling, using datamine software. Knowledge was also gained in block modeling and its different uses and limitations. Premier is a Canadian based mineral exploration and development company with diverse property holdings that include several projects and deposits in Northwestern Ontario. These include several in the Red Lake gold mining camp, two of which are operated in joint venture with Goldcorp Inc. (TSX:G), and a strategic project located on the main Musselwhite Gold Mine trend (Goldcorp-Kinross). Additionally, Premier has announced its intent to acquire Sedimentary Holdings Ltd., an Australian listed company that holds several prospective gold projects in Australia including a 30% interest in the high-grade producing Cracow Gold Mine. The statements made in this Press Release may contain forward-looking statements that may involve a number of risks and uncertainties. Actual events or results could differ materially from the Company's expectations and projections. %SEDAR: 00010215E ---------------------------------------------- Ewan Downie President & CEO Phone: (807) 346-1668 Fax: (807) 345-0284 e-mail: edownie@premiergoldmines.com Web Site: www.premiergoldmines.com
