I'm sending Matthew Ingram a X-mas present

I'm sending Matthew Ingram a X-mas presentSo I was wrong a few days back when I ranted about how the Canadian media was ignoring the Wi-LAN meeting last week. Matthew Ingram's article today shows that Wi-LAN can be a player in the emerging wireless industry. Maybe Wi-LAN won't control the industry, but that's okay. 10 or 20 percent of a few billion dollars is excellent. I also think some analysts are discounting how big wireless can be, even in urban centres where there is access to fixed lines. Fixed lines still reduce flexibility and we live in a society that is willing to pay more for an orange juice container that has a lid that screws on and off, instead of having to open a spout. I like the way he played down the rivalry between Cisco and Wi-LAN (it still amazes me that Wi-LAN gets mentioned in the same breath as Cisco). Maybe they can all get along.
