Electrovaya Inc. Announces Board Appointment

TORONTO, ONTARIO--(CCNMatthews - Oct. 5, 2006) - Electrovaya Inc. (TSX:EFL) (the "Company") announced today that Dr. Alex McLean has been appointed to the Board of Directors of the Company.
Dr. McLean graduated with a Ph.D. in Metallurgy (1963) from the University of Glasgow. After several years in industry and academe, he joined the Department of Metallurgy and Materials Science at the University of Toronto, and in 1984 the Ferrous Metallurgy Research Group (FMRG) was formed with Professor McLean as Director. He served as Department Chairman from 1992 through 1997 and in 2002 was appointed Professor Emeritus. He is a Consulting Professor for Wuhan Iron and Steel University in the People's Republic of China, an Adjunct Professor at Chiba Institute of Technology in Japan, visiting professor at MIT and since 1998 has held the title of "Invited Professor" at Kyoto University. Dr. McLean has authored or co-authored over three hundred publications including six books and served as a consultant and also as a board member for several industrial organizations in North America and Europe. Dr. McLean will also serve as a member of the Company's Audit, Governance & Compensation and Safety Committees.
Electrovaya also announced today that it has accepted the resignation of Mr. Sydney (Bud) McMorran as a director of the Company.
"Bud has been a great strength to the Company and we wish him well for the future", said Dr. Sankar Das Gupta, CEO of Electrovaya. "Professor McLean joins us with great experience and we look forward to working with him." he added.
