VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(CCNMatthews - Oct. 10, 2006) - True North Gems (TSX VENTURE:TGX) is pleased to announce that the processing of ruby and pink sapphire concentrate and rough-stone sorting completed in the field as part of the 2006 exploration program at the company's 110 km2 property located on the west coast of Greenland, has resulted in the recovery 12,060 grams (60,298 carats) of gem-grade rough. This gem-grade material was recovered from 149.9 kilos, or 23% of the total 650 kilograms of ruby and pink sapphire concentrate produced from the 30 tonne, 2006 Aappaluttoq bulk sample.
These partial results provide an initial assessment of the grade concentrations of ruby and pink sapphire from the 2006 Aappaluttoq bulk sample. Combined, the gem grade ruby and pink sapphire will contribute 402 grams (2,010 carats) per tonne to the overall rough stone grade of the 30 tonne bulk sample. Final grade concentration numbers will await the processing and rough stone sorting of the remaining 77% of the Aappaluttoq ruby and pink sapphire concentrate currently in inventory at the Company's secure Vancouver gem laboratory.
An important indication evident in these initial data from the 2006 Aappaluttoq bulk sample is the significant fraction of the gem grade material that has been classified as "eye-clean" by True North's gemmologists. Rough ruby and pink sapphire classed in this category will produce superior polished gem-stones that will range from "good" to "extra-fine" and represent the highest value component of the products derived from the 2006 bulk sample. Of the total gem grade ruby and pink sapphire material documented to date, 7.4% is classified as "eye-clean", a significant increase over the 2005 Aappaluttoq results.

In addition to the gem fraction, 15,457 grams (77,285 carats) of near-gem ruby and pink sapphire have also been recovered from the field sort. Including this data, the total gem and near-gem grade rough material recovered from the 149.9 kilos of field processed ruby and pink sapphire concentrate amounts to 27,517 grams (137,585 carats). Concentrate processing and rough stone sorting of the remaining 500.1 kilos of Aappaluttoq concentrate is ongoing and final results are anticipated prior to the end of the fourth quarter, 2006.
"These initial results are highly encouraging," said William Rohtert, True North's COO, commenting on the significance of these initial results. "They support our preliminary conclusions regarding the importance of hydrothermal provenance evident at Aappaluttoq, to the creation of high-value ruby deposits in Greenland."
